Will sharing my lock-screen passcode put my privacy at risk?
Answer
After a repair, some functionality checks may require the device to be unlocked, for example to test the touchscreen and display, front and rear cameras, recording and audio, Face ID, NFC or the compass. When unlocking is needed, preferably enter the passcode yourself; where the device, system version and checks support it, use Repair Mode; if the device must remain with us and needs to be unlocked during testing, create a temporary passcode dedicated to this service instead of sharing your everyday passcode.
Technicians use the chosen unlock method only within the agreed testing scope and follow professional conduct and customer privacy requirements. They will not access, copy or share photos, chats, private apps or other personal content unrelated to repair testing.
If you want to review device use after it is returned, you may confirm beforehand that Screen Time is enabled on the iPhone and recording normally. Its records depend on what the device actually displays and are for your later reference only; they cannot by themselves prove or rule out a particular action and do not replace our minimum-access and privacy requirements.
If the device contains important data, make an independent backup before handover. If you created a temporary passcode, remove or change it after the device is returned and you have completed your checks.
